Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program- Dept. of Navy

Program:  The Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP), provides an opportunity for students to participate in research at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer. The goals of the NREIP are to encourage participating students to pursue science and engineering careers, to further education via mentoring by laboratory personnel and their participation in research, and to make them aware of Navy research and technology efforts, which can lead to employment within the Navy.

UM Call for Internal Pre-proposals for NSF Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program

Pre-proposals are due to UM ORSP by Nov. 15, 2012 for this limited funding opportunity to acquire or develop shared scientific and engineering instruments for research and research training. This program seeks to improve the quality and expand the scope of research and research training in science and engineering by providing shared instrumentation that fosters the integration of research and education in research-intensive learning environments.

National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Stipends

NEH has announced the 2012 competition for Summer Stipends for the summer of 2013. This is a limited submission opportunity, for which UM can submit only two applications for full-time faculty members.

UPDATED: Compiling Capabilities Related to Energy Development and Use

This month ORSP will significantly update and expand our current list of UM energy capabilities to include capabilities in technical, environmental, social, economic, educational, public policy, human health, and human behavior areas surrounding, or potentially relevant to, the development of and use of energy resources.

Mississippi Academy of Sciences Annual Meeting February 23-24

The annual meeting of the Mississippi Academy of Sciences (MAS) will be held February 23-24, 2011, at the Thad Cochran Center on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Student and faculty researchers will present posters or 15-minute talks on research or class projects, network with peers and vendors in the exhibit hall, and attend the Dodgen Lecture, by UM Chancellor Dan Jones. MAS Travel Grants are available from the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to reduce cost barriers to UM faculty and student participation (requests due November 14).
