ORAU University Partnerships Office - Graduate Student Support to Attend the Nobel Laureates Meeting in Germany

Program:  Since 1951, Nobel Laureates in chemistry, physics, and physiology/medicine convene annually in Lindau, Germany, to have open and informal meetings with students and young researchers. The Laureates lecture on the topic of their choice in the mornings and participate in less formal, small-group discussions with the students in the afternoons and some evenings.

The Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) provides funding to support graduate students to attend this annual meeting of Nobel Laureates in Lindau, Germany. The Lindau Meeting Council has announced the dates and deadlines for two meetings in 2014 - the 64th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting dedicated to physiology or medicine will be held June 29 through July 4, 2014 and the 5th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences which will be held August 19 through August 23, 2014.

Selected students will have the opportunity to attend formal lectures in the morning, and the remainder of the day is set aside for the students to meet informally with the Nobel Laureate scientists and peers from around the world. Information on past meetings is available at http://www.orau.org/lindau.

Eligibility:  Students must be U.S. citizens currently enrolled at a university as full-time graduate students; have completed by June 2014 at least two academic years of graduate studies toward a doctoral degree in the discipline of medicine/physiology or a related discipline, but not be planning a dissertation/thesis defense before December 31, 2014.  As an ORAU member institution, UM may nominate one student for consideration for ORAU funding to attend the meeting.
