NASA and K-12 Internet Funding

As part of their QUEST project, NASA maintains a website introducing (and linking to) various grant programs supporting the addition of Internet components to K-12 instructional services. The page, “Grants and Other (People’s) Money,” covers specific grants with upcoming deadlines, as well as foundations with ongoing programs of interest. In addition, the site links to other lists of potential sources and to organizations offering a variety of grants for infrastructure support. Although (or perhaps because) geared to the novice searcher, the site offers basic and varied information, enthusiastically presented. » http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/top/grants.html

Change in Indirect Costs on USDA NRICGP Grants

USDA has revised its indirect cost limitations in this program. Under the new USDA National Research Initiative Competitive Grants Program (NRICGP), indirect costs should be figured at .23456 of the total direct costs minus exclusions. (In previous years, the maximum indirect cost rate was 14% for NRICGP.) Reminder: UM cannot include equipment or graduate tuition (among other less common items) in the indirect cost base. Please see “Information Most Commonly Needed for Preparation of Contract and Grant Applications” at http://www.olemiss.edu/depts/research/infocomm.html for a full list of items excluded from indirect cost base.

NEA National Heritage Fellowships Winners Announced

The National Endowment for the Arts has just posted feature articles on the 1999 National Heritage Fellowship winners. Awards honor American folk artists nominated by “ordinary citizens” who feel the folk artist’s contribution to the nation’s culture merits recognition. The site also includes information on how to nominate an artist. » http://arts.endow.gov/explore
