4.5 - Travel

Domestic Travel (travel within the continental U.S.)

Travel activities must be in compliance with the sponsor’s travel policies and University Travel Policy (posted on Procurement Services’ Travel page). If UM and sponsoring agency travel rates differ, the lower rate will be applied.

Written approval from the Chancellor is required for travel within the state or within the continental U.S. to attend a convention, association, or meeting. A convention, association, or meeting is defined as any program which is sponsored by a local, regional, or national organization to conduct an annual meeting, share information, present research papers, augment professional development, etc. Participation usually (but not always) involves payment of a fee (registration, conference, tuition, etc.).

A Travel Authorization Form (Exhibit H) is required and should be submitted to Procurement/Travel at least one week prior to departure date.

Foreign Travel (travel outside the continental U.S.)

Travel outside the continental United States generally requires prior approval by the sponsoring agency grants officer.

A Travel Authorization Form (Exhibit H) is required and should be submitted to Procurement/Travel at least at least one week prior to departure date. The signatures of the Provost/Vice Chancellor and the Chancellor are required on the Travel Authorization Form before the form is submitted to Procurement/Travel.
