Program: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), through its National Center for Environmental Research announces the posting of the Request for Applications, 11th Annual P3 Awards: A National Student Design Competition for Sustainability Focusing on People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) with the goal of using scientific principals in creating innovative projects focused on sustainability. The applicants will propose to do research, develop and design solutions to real world challenges involving the overall sustainability of human society. The P3 competition was offered in response to the technical needs of the world while moving towards the goal of sustainability, and incorporating the three pillars of sustainability—people, prosperity, and the planet.
Supporting the development of sustainable methods is in line with EPA’s Sustainable and Healthy Communities National Research Program (SHCRP). Under SHCRP, sustainable methods and tools are sought to improve human health and preserve the environment. Research under SHCRP falls into four categories: data and tools to support sustainable communities, forecasting and assessing ecological and community health, near-term approaches for sustainable solutions, and integrated solutions for sustainable outcomes. SHCRP research (including P3 projects) will aid in improving human health and the environment through the tenets of sustainability.
Deadline: December 17, 2013.
