Charlie Church Selected for Research Administration Fellowship

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is pleased to announce the selection of Charles Church, Ph.D., as Research Administration Fellow for the 2011-12 academic year. Dr. Church has been employed with UM since 2001, and currently serves as Senior Research Scientist with the National Center for Physical Acoustics, and Associate Research Professor of Physics. He has 61 peer-reviewed publications, is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and has received external funding from agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, the US Army, the US Navy, the Space Missile Defense Command and private industry. His research interests include acoustic cavitation and the biological effects and safety of diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound.

The Research Fellows program was created this year as a mechanism through which senior UM researchers can gain research administration experience while devoting some time to help fellow researchers develop ideas, proposals, and partnerships to achieve greater impacts. Selection of Dr. Church was done through a competitive process, beginning with a call for Fellows applications in Spring 2011. We will continue to explore additional ways to facilitate sharing of individual experience and knowledge to enhance the research enterprise, through research our lunch series, online discussion forums, internal grant reviews, and other means. We welcome your suggestions on how best to accomplish this.
