Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)

Research involving pathogens, DNA, and/or human blood, other bodily fluids, or tissue requires approval of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), an institution-wide committee. Excluded from the IBC requirement are: saliva, urine, and simple blood collection/sampling/typing using lancet drawn samples of less than 1/2 ml. The researcher must submit an IBC Memorandum of Understanding and Agreement (download link below) and protocol to the Chair of the IBC(, for review and approval prior to conducting the research.
