The Sloan Research Fellowships seek to stimulate fundamental research by early-career scientists and scholars of outstanding promise. These $60,000, two-year fellowships are awarded yearly to 126 researchers in recognition of distinguished performance and a unique potential to make substantial contributions to their field.
Funds may be used by the Fellow for such purposes as equipment, technical assistance, professional travel, trainee support, summer salary, or any other activity directly related to the Fellow's research. If used for summer salary, support is limited to a maximum of two-ninths of established academic salary.
Funds may not be used to augment an existing full-time salary or for indirect or overhead charges by the Fellow’s institution.
Eligibility:
- Candidates must hold a tenure track (or equivalent) that includes a yearly teaching requirement.
- Candidates must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in chemistry, computational or evolutionary molecular biology, computer science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, ocean sciences, physics, or a related field;
- Candidates' most recent Ph.D. (or equivalent) must have been awarded on or after September 1, 2010. Exceptions may apply.
Candidates must be nominated by a department head or other senior researcher. Submissions unaccompanied by a nomination from a senior researcher are not accepted. More than one candidate from a department may be nominated, but no more than three.
All nomination materials, including nomination letters and all letters of support, are due to ORSP on September 8, 2016, must be submitted to the sponsor online no later than 11:59PM EDT, September 15, 2016.
